Immigrant Songs: Where does the money go?

Now that that nasty International Day of Commercialized Romance is safely behind us, we can return to our regularly scheduled program in which I once again plug the Kickstarter project for my new solo album, and tell you where the money actually goes…

  • Musicians: 19.5%
  • Audio Engineering: 19.5%
  • Graphic Design: 9.7%
  • Licensing: 28.2%
  • Duplication: 13.3%
  • Promotion: 9.6.0009%
  • Tea & Biscuits: .0001%

Note that the single biggest piece of the pie goes to “Licensing”, which are the fees I pay to the fine people at EasySong so that I can properly and legally record and release songs written by other people. This ensures that these wonderful songwriters are acknowledged and rewarded for their hard work, and I can sell my CDs, stream my tracks, post videos, and sleep soundly at night knowing that I’ve done my moral and fiscal duty and that I’m playing by the rules.
